Who doesn't like free stuff?

You guys, it's almost Christmas! I had big plans for myself this year and I was certain I was going to be ahead of the curve in terms of being ready. That did not happen.

Back in October I started making lists of gift ideas for the people I wanted to get something for. My plan was to order things in advance so that when December came, I could rest easy knowing I was done. Points for trying, I guess?

My Favorite Things: Festive Nails

It's not an understatement to say I'm addicted to nail polish. My personal collection is impressive(ly alarming). As much as I love getting my nails done at my favorite salon by my favorite girl (shout out to Mindy!), I can't realistically get a manicure every week (yet...). So, I got pretty decent at doing my own nails.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know I document my #notd (nails of the day) semi-regularly. I'll show you some of my favorites later, but first let's look at pretty colors! If you want to see a lot more nail polishes and nail art that I love, check out my Pinterest board that's devoted solely to nails (that's normal, right?). Here's a sampling of some of my faves.

Important note: I took these nail polish pictures from Pinterest and I claim no ownership of them.

Deep Red
I've been really into deep red shades recently, but I surprisingly don't own many myself. I found one recently that I wasn't impressed by, and I found a berry color on my successful shopping journey a couple months ago, but it's not as deeply red as these Pinterest finds.

All images from Pinterest. Clockwise from top left: OPI "William Tell Me About It"; OPI "Hollywood & Wine"; Essie "Carry On"; Essie "Recessionista"; OPI "Vampire State Building"

The Loveliest of All Gatsby Weddings

Earlier this month, that sister-friend I told you about before got married! I had the rare treat of being involved in the planning process throughout, whether it was just getting updates on what was going on, or actually going to cake tastings (I excelled at this task) and dress fittings. Everything went off without a hitch and was more beautiful and fun than I imagined. I'm honored I got to be a part of the celebration.

True Life: I'm a [Recovering] Soda Addict

If you know me, you know I'm fond of the soda. I weened myself off of regular coke in high school and refuse to go down the rabbit hole of "just one sip is fine..." because that's the first thing an addict says. Diet soda, on the other hand, is my jam. Coke Zero and Cherry Coke Zero are my go-tos, but I've never been one to refuse a Diet Coke. I feel compelled to mention that while I'm definitely addicted to soda, I can control it to some degree. A soda a day is typical, but usually not more than that. Ok fine, occasionally two sodas a day but that's it!

A Celebration in The Big Easy

My dear, dear sister-friend (that's a term, right?) is getting married! What’s the best way to celebrate your favorite bride-to-be? Take her to New Orleans! (Duh…)

The Mississippi River, looking particularly lovely.
After several months of careful planning (with lots of help from an amazing bridesmaid) and keeping all the secrets away from the bride, New Orleans was upon us! One weekend, seven girls (and one boy!), and a whole lot of Bourbon Street – it’s a recipe for success!

Let’s focus on the most important parts of the weekend.

Speed Shopping: Can I Find a Dress in Less Than 30 Minutes?

I had an impossible task: Find a floor-length evening dress that is super inexpensive and doesn’t need any alterations. That last one is especially tricky because I’m only 5’2” and all floor-length dresses assume the wearer is no shorter than 6'5".

In what had to be the biggest fluke of all time, I popped into a TJ Maxx with only 30 minutes to spare before attending a comedy show, and there was a dress that fit the bill. To be fair, it could’ve been a little cheaper, but I wasn’t too upset since it didn’t need to be hemmed at all (once I put on some 4-inch heels…)
